FAQs
What is a Faraday Bag?
A Faraday bag blocks electromagnetic fields (EMFs) to stop all incoming and outgoing wireless signals from reaching a device. These EMF signals include, cellular (4G/5G), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, EMP and solar flares
What is an EMP?
An Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) is a burst of electromagnetic energy that can be caused by a nuclear detonation, solar flare, or specialized weapons. EMPs can disrupt or destroy unshielded electronics over a wide area in seconds.
What Happens to My Electronics After an EMP or Solar Flare?
Unprotected electronics can be permanently damaged or rendered useless by the intense electrical surge caused by an EMP or solar flare. Anything with a circuit board—phones, radios, solar chargers, vehicle electronics—can be fried instantly.
Why Do I Need to Protect Electronics After an EMP?
Many preppers build their survival plans around key electronics. While cell towers may be down after an EMP, devices like HAM radios, satellite phones, solar generators, and GPS units can still function if they’ve been protected. Offloaded maps, downloaded medical guides, digital photos of loved ones, and critical files on USB drives could all be vital in a grid-down scenario.
Will GoDark Faraday Bags Protect My Devices After an EMP?
The GoDark RF Shielding fabric used in all our Faraday bags has undergone rigorous testing by Keystone Compliance, an industry leader in materials testing. We're proud to share that it passed the MIL-STD-188-125-2 test, a standardized military test for EMP shielding effectiveness of small transportable containers.
Every GoDark Bag is crafted with multiple layers of this exceptional RF shielding fabric. While we can't simulate an actual EMP, the results from this test give us strong confidence that our GoDark Faraday Bags provide robust protection against EMPs.
Is the GoDark Shielding Tested?
The GoDark RF Shielding material is specifically engineered to provide reliable signal protection in various environments. The RF Shielding is made from a proprietary blend of nickel and copper and have passed the following tests:
MIL-STD-188-125-2: This military standard tests a bag’s ability to shield against high-altitude electromagnetic pulses (EMPs), which are strong bursts of energy that can damage electronics. This test, independently performed by Keystone Compliance, verifies that GoDark’s shielding fabric meets this standard.
IEEE 299-2006: This test measures radiofrequency (RF) shielding effectiveness from 1 to 40 GHz. Each GoDark bag has multiple layers of RF shielding fabric that pass this standard to ensure strong protection against Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth, and other wireless signals.
What Devices Should I Protect in a Faraday Bag?
Protect any electronics that are part of your survival plan. This includes two-way radios, satellite phones, solar chargers, USB drives with vital documents, off-grid GPS units, medical devices etc. Store downloaded maps, emergency contacts, digital copies of ID, and first-aid manuals on protected devices.
