Why do law enforcement agencies use Faraday bags?

Exposed signals create two main risks: risk to digital evidence and risk to operational security (OPSEC). A phone seized at a crime scene stays open to remote wipe or tampering unless it is isolated. Officers carrying live devices are also exposed to location tracking and RF detection, which can put personnel and active operations at risk. A GoDark bag isolates the device from incoming and outgoing signals, which preserves both the evidence and the officer's OPSEC.

The GoDark® Faraday Bag for Phones - Forensics Series isolates seized phones to protect evidential integrity. Without isolation, evidence remains vulnerable through Wi-Fi, cellular, and Bluetooth connections. This bag blocks incoming and outgoing RF signals between 200 MHz and 40 GHz, preventing remote wipes, location tracking, and unauthorized access while the device is in your custody.

Built for evidence handling, each bag carries a unique serial number and an evidence tag window to support chain of custody. 3 layers of GoDark® RF shielding fabric are protected by a felt liner, while shock-absorbing foam cushions the device inside. The exterior is durable 500D water-resistant ballistic nylon with a hook-and-loop closure.

GoDark® RF shielding fabric is independently lab tested, meets IEEE 299-2006 (1-40 GHz), and has passed the MIL-STD-188-125-2 military test for High Altitude EMP shielding. Law enforcement agencies including the FBI and the RCMP rely on GoDark Faraday bags.

The GoDark Forensics Series bags feature serialized numbers and a clear evidence tag window. Both features support chain of custody from seizure through analysis. The Forensics Series comes in phone, tablet and laptop sizes.

No. GoDark is a physical solution to digital threats. Placing a device in the bag is all it takes to preserve evidence or protect an officer's location. No technical or cybersecurity background is required.

They block incoming and outgoing RF signals between 200 MHz and 40 GHz. This includes 4G, 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth.

Our RF shielding is independently tested to provide an average of 100 dB of attenuation between 200 MHz and 40 GHz. That reduces EMF power by roughly 10 billion fold. It meets IEEE 299-2006 and MIL-STD-188-125-2, the two key standards for law enforcement, military, and government use.

We moved our line from the industry standard of 2 shielding layers to 3 layers. 2 layers passed the requirements for law enforcement and military. We upgraded for added durability and to ensure protection around supercharged towers or specialized military equipment.
